The Nova Scotia Symbol of Quality

The Nova Scotia Wine Standards symbol is our promise of quality, authentic wine that illustrates the value of place and origin to consumers.

The Wines of Nova Scotia logo identifies quality wines of Nova Scotia made from 100% locally grown grapes and fruit. It is the industry's stamp of approval and guarantee of quality. Wineries that are members in good standing fot he Winery Association of Nova Scotia may enter into a Licensing Agreement with the association to use the Wines of Nova Scotia logo. Specifications on use on labelling are available from the association.

The province's Farm Winery Policy and Grape Wine Standards set out standards and measures for quality in winegrowing and production. These standards apply only to wines that display the Nova Scotia Geographical Indicator (NSGI) on the principal display panel. Icewines, all late harvest wines, wines and Vin de Cure are required to display the NSGI, and must therefore meet these standards. For other wines the NSGI is optional and obviously wines that do not meet the industry's standard cannot carry the logo. The Grape Standards and Farm Winery Policy also sets standards for vineyard designation, estate-bottled or estate-grown designations, wine categories, varietal and blending designations, vintage dating, quality standards, Nova Scotia Wine Audit Procedures and terminology restricted to Nova Scotia wines.

Together these standards have evolved as a commitment and assurance to the consumer of the quality of the wines that are becoming known under the "Wines of Nova Scotia" brand.
